The Hip Replacements
Red Bank Jazz In the Park
Doug Clarke and The Hip Replacements started out many years ago as The Doug Clarke Quartet featuring saxophonist Paul Carlon, bassist Gary Mazzaroppi and drummer Scott Latzky - all world class musicians in their own right. Individually, they have played with a list of musicians that reads like a Who's Who in jazz, including Tal Farlow, Jim Hall, Les Paul, Norah Jones, Diana Krall, Stan Getz, Marion McPartland, Joe Morello, Lionel Hampton, and many others. Over the years, the band has played in various configurations (mostly guitar, bass and drum trio) with Doug as the leader and many truly "hip" replacements subbing for the regular band members on occasion. No matter who the hip replacements are, the elements that remain constant are the high quality musicianship and the unique and distinctive interpretations of classic Blue Note Jazz, great American and Brazilian jazz standards from composers Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Cole Porter, Johnny Mercer, Antonio Carlos Jobim as well as a few outstanding original songs. Each musician brings his own unique sound and artistry to the music while maintaining a shared vision. In this way, the band is able to both honor the music’s pioneers and at the same time, break free from the boundaries of traditional jazz to create a fresh take on classic jazz. Come hear the warm and captivating sounds of Doug Clarke and The Hip Replacements.
